Do you know the most important components of a gaming desktop? How much RAM do you need for gaming, and does too much RAM increase gaming performance? Find out the answers to these questions and more from our buying guide below.
In this section, we are discussing the three most important components of a gaming PC: CPU, graphics card, and RAM. Find out about their significance and how each part contributes to providing you the best gaming experience for the money you are paying.
When it comes to gaming, the processor wars are always between Intel and AMD. But Intel's popularity is so huge that the crowd straight away goes for it. Understand that both chipmakers have a long line of top-notch processors. Here is how you can make a choice. For a given price range, AMD processors are smarter and faster than Intel processors.
How powerful a processor do you need? Let's take 2K gaming, for example. We will compare Core i3 10100F and the Ryzen 5 5600X—both of them paired with an RTX 3070. The Ryzen 5 5600X is more expensive and powerful than the i3 10100F. But when it comes to FPS, the difference is negligible in most cases. You can save a few thousand bucks there and invest that in a more powerful graphics card.
A graphics card's responsibility is to boost the rendering speed of images, videos, and animations. The two top graphics chip (GPU) manufacturers are NVIDIA and AMD. They have their own line of graphics cards, but they also sell their GPU design to other manufacturers like ASUS, MSI, and ZOTAC, who make graphics cards that may offer extra features and better performance.
These "tweaks" could be a better cooling solution, flashy lights, more memory, factory overclock, etc. Of course, the price will go up too. Checking if the graphics card supports ray-tracing is also important. Currently, NVIDIA's 20 and 30 series and AMD's RX 6000 chips are the only ones that come with dedicated hardware for ray tracing, making them capable of handling complex effects.
Ray tracing is worth your money. If performance is a priority for you, sacrifice on a fancy cabinet, RGB lights, and aftermarket coolers for a powerful ray tracing supported card.
How much RAM do you actually need? To play the most graphically demanding games released so far, you only need 8 GB of RAM. But, nowadays, even mid-range gaming desktops come with 16 GB of RAM. Since RAM requirements for video games are increasing, the extra RAM will keep you ready to play new releases in the near future.
You can determine the amount of RAM you need by checking the recommended system requirements of the video games you want to play. But is 32 GB of RAM overkill? If you are streaming on YouTube and Twitch, recording your gameplay at 4K, and chatting on discord, you would definitely need 32 GB of RAM. And you won't be needing a RAM upgrade for a long time.
There are mainly three types of storage available: Hard drive (HDD), SATA Solid State Drive (SSD), and NVMe SSD. Your gaming desktop will have any two of these. Typically, 1 TB of HDD and 120 - 500 GB of SATA SSD or NVMe SSD will be present inside. The performance of each storage type varies considerably.
Solid state drives are the fastest, and the NVMe variant is faster than SATA SSD. It is best to install the operating system and games in the SSD since it improves the loading times drastically. PC games, nowadays, demand a lot of storage space. If you plan on installing more than one game, we recommend at least 250 GB of SSD.
Part of what defines a desktop as a "gaming desktop" is the flashy lights and the over-the-top PC case design. You don't have to be a streamer to make a statement with your gaming PC. But here are a few things to remember. Graphic cards, RAMs, and cooler fans that come with LED lighting usually cost more than their regular counterparts.
If you are on a tighter budget or want the best performing gaming PC for the money you are paying, ditch all the pretentious extras. Some websites (ANT PC, THE MVP, etc.) even let you customize the gaming desktop you are buying. This will let you replace the extravagant ones with more affordable ones.

Ray tracing can make a game look more lifelike. Wanna experience this new thing in the gaming world? We recommend ANT PC PHARAOH RZ500. It comes with INNO3D Geforce RTX 3060 Ti ICHILL X3, a third-party graphics card that is factory overclocked and offers a better cooling solution than the reference card.
It can run most AAA games at 4K at an average of 40 fps, which is really not that impressive. But at 2K, you will definitely get over 100 fps. The AMD Ryzen 5 5600X in this gaming desktop is one of the most sought-after CPUs by gamers. Are you a streamer? This 6-core CPU and 16 GB of RAM is more than enough to run games at 4K, screen record, and live stream at the same time.
The primary storage is a 256 GB NVMe SSD (faster than SATA SSD), and the secondary storage is a 1TB HDD with an RPM of 7200. Ant-PC allows customizing this build too. If you feel the price is too high, you can select some low-cost options to bring it down. We recommend choosing a cheaper case and CPU cooler.
This custom-built gaming PC from Electrobot gives you the biggest bang for your buck. You get the 10th gen Intel Core i7, 16 GB of RAM, and the RTX 3060 for Rs 20,000 less than our recommendation. There is not much difference in performance between the Ryzen 5 5600X in our first recommendation and the i7 10th gen on this gaming desktop.
The RTX 3060 is best suited for 2K gaming. You will get an average of 60 fps when playing games like Battlefield V, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Metro Exodus. There will be an approx. 20 fps drop if you attempt to run games at 4K.
You get the standard internal storage configuration of 256 GB NVMeSSD and 1 TB HDD. For streamers, the four ARGB fans and the Thermaltake V250 cabinet with tempered glass are plenty enough to keep your subscribers impressed.
Looking for a gaming PC under 1 lakh? The ANT PC DORYLUS RZ360N has a solid configuration for gaming at 1080p 60 fps. You can push the INNO3D GeForce GTX 1660 TI Twin X2 to run some AAA games, like Batman Arkham Knight, Dishonored 2, Battlefield 5, and The Witcher 3, at 2K. The frame rate drops are barely noticeable.
You can customize the build to reduce the price even further. But we don't recommend going for the stock CPU cooler as running CPU-intensive tasks like screen recording and live streaming could cause some overheating. So, the Deepcool GAMMAXX L120 V2 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler is the optimal choice. Do check out the options you have for the case. ANT PC offers some attractive designs.
Don't underestimate the Geforce GTX 1650 Super in the ANT PC DORYLUS CL940N. This graphics card is capable of running games like Apex Legends, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and Call of Duty: Warzone at an average frame rate of 65 fps.
The 10th gen Intel Core i5 is a powerful processer lauded by many gamers on a budget. This build has got a great price to performance ratio. You get only 8 GB of RAM for this price, but you can add an extra stick if you need to multitask and reap the benefits of dual channel memory.
The ASUS ROG Strix GL10CS-IN085T is an expensive gaming desktop. If a custom PC builder can offer the same configuration, it would cost less. The extra money you are paying is for that lit cabinet and 3 years onsite warranty. It only has a 9th gen Intel Core i5 and NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650.
But that doesn't mean that it is not capable. You can run almost all of the AAA titles released so far at 1080p in medium to high settings. Although 8 GB of RAM is ample for this gaming desktop, you can install extra RAM sticks in the three empty slots whenever you feel like upgrading.
This one right here is a special build. Gaming desktops at this price point usually have only 8 GB of RAM. This gaming PC from Electrobot comes with 16 GB RAM, which gives a slight fps boost when you are gaming. Also, streamers will find this build optimum for video editing too.
The 9th gen Intel Core i3 is one of the most affordable and best-performing CPUs to pair with the GTX 1650, making this gaming desktop powerful enough to run games at 1080p max settings. For some of the more recent games like Cyberpunk 2077, you may have to tolerate a slight drop in graphics quality to achieve acceptable frame rates.
The GALAX GTX 1050Ti in THE MVP's Freeman gaming desktop was released in 2016. Yes, it's quite an old card. But it is powerful enough for those who want to play games at 1080p resolution. Play around with the in-game settings to find the sweet spot that lets this machine hit 60 fps.
Both the graphics card and the 10th gen Intel Core i3 processor don't make this gaming PC future-proof, but they can absolutely satisfy your thirst for some quality gaming. One drawback we found was the 120 GB SSD. With Windows installed, the drive will only have space for one or two modern games.
Dreaming of becoming a streamer but don't have the budget to buy a powerful and attractive gaming PC? We recommend this Electrobot gaming PC with the GTX 1050Ti and three rainbow cooling fans. We compared the processor in our previous recommendation to the 9th gen Core i5 on this gaming desktop.
Games like Battlefield V and Red Dead Redemption 2 hit similar frame rates, while the i3 gave significantly higher fps for some titles like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Rainbow Six Seige (both use AnvilNext game engine).
Due to this unpredictability, find out the game engine used by your favorite games and check if the 9th gen Core i5 can give satisfactory frame rates while playing at 1080p. The PC only comes with a trial version of Windows 10. You can transfer your copy of genuine Windows from your old system to the new one.
ANT PC DORYLUS RZ320G is the most affordable gaming desktop on our list. For the price, the 8 GB of RAM, 120 GB SSD, and 1 TB HDD is a pretty good configuration. The cabinet also looks stylish with an RGB front panel and cooler fan and tempered side glass panel. But this gaming PC only has integrated graphics.
The Ryzen 5 3400G processor with Radeon Vega 11 graphics gives an average frame rate of 40 fps for some AAA titles, including Far Cry: New Dawn, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and GTA 5. But you have to run them at 720p at low graphics settings.
In terms of performance, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G in the HADES A5700G is way better than the Ryzen 5 3400G in our previous recommendation. But that's just on paper. Both are CPUs with integrated graphics processing units and hit similar average fps when running games like Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, and Days Gone at 1080p.
It comes with a 256 GB NVMe SSD, which is faster than a regular SSD. You are getting almost double the storage space normally seen in PCs at this price point. The Deepcool Matrexx 50 Mesh 4FS cabinet with four rainbow cooling fans and tempered glass side panel makes this build suitable for beginner streamers too. Still, the price is pretty high for such a configuration.
