Palm Test – Take a pinch of turmeric powder in your palm. Then rub it for 15-20 seconds with the thumb of your other hand. The thing is – if the powder is pure, it will stick to your palm and leave behind a deep yellow colour.
So tilt your palm downwards and check if the powder sticks. If it doesn't, that would mean it has been adulterated.

Water Test – Take a glass of lukewarm water and drop a teaspoon of turmeric powder on the surface. Do not mix it with the water and wait for about 15 minutes. Metanil Yellow Test – Metanil yellow is a toxic synthetic dye that enhances food colour. To check its presence in the turmeric – take a pinch of turmeric powder in a test tube and add a few drops of concentrated hydrochloric acid into it. If the water turns pink, it means there is a presence of this adulterant. Consuming metanil yellow can cause indigestion and food poisoning.
