Like any other electronic product, it’s better to understand some of the technicalities involved, so this section will familiarize you with all the essential aspects you should consider before investing in a projector. Let’s get started!
If portability is your priority, then go for a compact projector. Small-sized projectors are also known as pocket or pico projectors and are of the same size as smartphones. They weigh around 700-800 kg, give a larger image size than laptops, and are battery-powered, meaning no to wires but yes to charging.
Next in line are palmtop projectors; they are still small and light enough to fit into your bag but they are heavier, bigger, and brighter than pico projectors weighing around 1-1.5 kg. So, you can easily carry pico and palmtop projectors to your friend’s place for a movie night.
In the third category comes all other projectors called LED projectors, which are heavier and larger than those mentioned above. They do not have an built-in battery and can only run on mains when they’re plugged in a power source. They offer better image and sound quality with a high resolution up to 1080p.
Image quality comprises of three aspects; resolution, contrast ratio, and lumen. The resolution refers to the number of pixels extracted to produce an image. The higher the resolution, the more the number of pixels resulting in a clearer and crisper picture. So, if you watch a lot of video-related stuff, it’s better to pick a projector with a higher resolution.
Lumen determines the brightness of the image. More lumens mean having the ability to adjust over the brightness of a place. If you want to install the projector in a completely dark room like a mini home theatre, then 500 lumens or less can be sufficient. On the other hand, if your room is bright, we recommend going for 1500-2000 lumens.
The contrast ratio refers to the difference between the light and the dark parts of an image and It is measured in ratio. A contrast ratio of 1000:1 means that the bright part of the image is 1000 times brighter than the black one. A projector with a higher contrast ratio will produce a richer and detailed image.
Projection size refers to the size of the image a projector can produce. It is measured in inches diagonally from the bottom left corner of the image to the upper right corner. Projection distance, also called throw ratio, depicts the space between the wall and the projector, measured in meters or feet.
For your reference, if you see a throw ratio of 4 inches, it means the projector needs to be placed 4 inches away from the wall or screen. The farther the projector is placed, the larger the image will be. If you have a scarcity of space at your home or office, go for a projector with a lesser projection distance, say 3-5 feet.
If you don’t want to compromise with image size, yet want a larger image in less space, go for an ultra-short-throw (UST) projector. They are pricier than others but are capable of producing a big screen from a very short distance. Lastly, do not forget to check our specs table for every detail.
If you are looking for complete wireless connectivity, consider a projector with a Wi-Fi facility or an SD card slot. You can connect the Wi-Fi facility directly with your smartphone and enjoy mirroring your mobile into a larger screen. With an SD card slot, you can load your media straight onto the projector wire-free.
But generally, because of battery-issues, wired connections are considered more reliable than wireless connections. If you have a crucial business meeting and don’t want to take any chances, you can consider wired ones. However, some projectors offer both, Wi-Fi as well as a port facility.
Nowadays, almost all projectors can run from both internal batteries as well as from mains. Both the variants have ups and downs; battery-operated are portable, and wired ones are better in quality. For regular home usage, 4-5 hours would be enough.
Isn’t it bothering to adjust the image of the projector manually? If you do not want to get entangled with right, left, up, and down adjustments, check for keystone correction. It corrects the image automatically, even if the projector is placed too high or too low.
Do keep in mind that keystone correction is inversely related to the number of pixels. The stronger the keystone correction, the lesser will be its pixels. We recommend that if the image’s quality is your priority, then go for one without keystone correction.
Additionally, if you want the freedom to control your projector from any corner of the room, go for a projector with an advanced remote control system. Choose a projector with robust and high watt built-in speakers to enjoy a truly immersive cinematic experience.

The projector helps to experience an image on the larger screen. It can prove very helpful for online classes and business presentations without taking much space. A quality projector can add phenomenal value to your home theatre while giving a brilliant cinematic experience.
